Dawit Muluneh
Researcher, Cataloger, Translator & PACRI Project Coordinator
Dawit Muluneh has worked part-time on PEMM in the position of Researcher, Cataloger, and Translator since November 2020. He has cataloged over 9,315 stories in over 79 manuscripts, and co-translated over 100 stories. Since July 2023, he has also served as the Project Coordinator for the PACRI Collaboration between the Howard Center for African Studies and the Princeton PEMM Project.
He is pursuing a doctorate in African studies at Howard University in Washington, DC. His dissertation explores the thematic and stylistic differences between African and European stories found in Miracle of Mary texts. He is the recipient of both the Just-Julian Scholar Program and the Lilly Grant Scholar Program.
An Ethiopian member of the Ethiopian Orthodox Täwaḥədo Church, he regularly preaches on the Marian stories, which are vital parts of the church’s liturgy to this day.
He is the founder of Yibel Academy, an online platform for a self-paced Ge’ez curriculum as well as other teachings related with Ethiopian Orthodox Church’s doctrine. He also teaches summer courses at Catholic University on the Gəˁəz language.
He is the author of the popular book on the Ethiopian Orthodox Church I Need Answers and Hopeless Romantic: The Untold History of Ethiopia. He has a Youtube channel. He is on Twitter.
