Summary

A priest named John, who lived in the monastery of Saint Macarius, received frequent visits from Mary. One day John was in his cell with two other monks, when he saw a bright light. He witnessed an image of Mary with wings like an eagle. She spread her wings over John, and the other monks were filled with wonder.

A miracle performed by Our Lady Mary, Holy Twofold Virgin, the Mother of God, may her prayers and her blessings be with her servant La’eka Maryam in the morning and in the evening, forever and ever, amen.

A priest called [Saint] John [the Great] in the monastery of Abba Macarius [in Wadi el Natrun, Egypt]. Our Lady Mary, Holy Twofold Virgin, the Mother of God, appeared to him regularly and spoke with him every day.

One day, while he was sleeping in the cave with his assistant and another monk, he saw a light enter the cave. It was in the likeness of a maiden who had wings like an eagle. She stretched out her wings over Abba John.

May the prayers and blessings of Our dear Lady Mary, Holy Twofold Virgin, the Mother of God, be with your servant La’eka Maryam, who limitlessly loves Our Lady, forever and ever, amen.¹
